How to Prepare Your Pet for a Pet Sitter

Leaving your pet behind when you travel can be stressful for both of you. However, with the right preparation, you can ensure your pet feels safe and comfortable with their sitter.
Meet and Greet
Always arrange a meet-and-greet before you leave. This allows your pet to become familiar with the sitter's scent and presence while you are there, establishing trust.
Write Down the Routine
Pets love routine. Write down their feeding schedule, portion sizes, walking times, and any medication needs. Include details about their favourite hiding spots or quirks.
Prepare Supplies
Ensure you have enough food, treats, medication, and waste bags to last the entire trip, plus a little extra just in case. Leave everything in an easily accessible location.
Emergency Contacts
Provide your vet's contact information, an emergency contact (like a nearby friend or relative), and your own contact details. Let your vet know that a sitter will be caring for your pet.
Comfort Items
Leave a piece of unwashed clothing (like a t-shirt) in their bed. Your scent will provide immense comfort while you're away. Make sure their favourite toys are readily available.
At Amy Dalby Pet Care, we always prioritise a thorough handover to ensure we can provide the exact care your pet is used to.
